Electromagnetic theory and Modern Optics
Short Answer type Question and Answer
Q.1: Explain the principle of superposition.
Ans.: When a number of charge are present, the total force on a given charge is equal to the vector sum of the forces but to the remaining other charges on the given charge.
Q.2: What is equipotential surface?
Ans.: A surface which has same potential at all points.
Q.3: What is dipole moment of a current?
Ans.: nIA
Q.4: What is the torque on a dipole of dipole
moment P in an electric field E ?
Ans.: P x E
Q.5: What is the angle between the equipotential
surface and electric lines of force?
Ans.: 0°
Q.6: State of Gauss' Law in electrostatics.
Ans.: Gauss' Law :-
This law gives a relation between the electric flux through any closed hypothetical surface (called a Gaussian surface) and the charge enclosed by the surface. It states that the electric flux ΦE through any closed surface is equal to 1/ε0 times the 'net' charge q enclosed by the surface.
This is the integral form of Gauss' law.
