The good uses to which wealth can be put are manifold. Riches can be profitably spent in removing the wants to the poor and needy by providing them with food and clothing, by the establishment of hospitals for the sick, by starting of orphanages for helpless children, by the opening of alms-houses for the disabled and infirm or rescue homes for fallen women and widows. Besides these humanitarian works, other works of public utility such as foundation of educational institutions, promoting the growth of science and agriculture by financing research institutions, may be carried out. But just as wealth can be turned to good account, it can also be put to many bad uses. Rich men, who literally roll in wealth, are easily tempted to waste their money on luxuries and on gratification of physical pleasures deficient in moral or spiritual interests.
